Today, I was asked a question about how does one know they are getting the best prices for home repair work. He wanted to know if there was any online source that provided pricing information. I have seen web sites and blogs that address pricing issues, but often their reporting is more national in scope. I think repair servicing is local and the law of supply and demand governs pricing any ways. Here’s what I told this person: until you are comfortable with a particular provider (and maybe even after you are comfortable) shop around. Get several quotes and by all means make sure everyone is quoting the same quality of workmanship. I am not saying to go with the lowest bidder. What I am saying is the only way to know that you are being treated fairly is to bid out the job. Reviews from people, online and offline, can also be helpful. Basically, do some homework first before you have work done on your home.
